We complete a comprehensive in-home initial consultation to gain a clear understanding of the client, their support network and the activities in which they wish to participate. We consider where and how it will be used so we can ensure the AT solution will be compatible with the environment and any existing items of AT it will be used with. We also explain the AT service process tailored to the client’s specific situation and funding requirements so you know what to expect.

Following the initial consultation we provide an Initial Assessment Summary that outlines the key priorities identified and the estimated funding required to complete the service so you can make informed decisions about the next steps. If there is insufficient funding in your NDIS Plan to complete the service we can assist you with submission to the NDIA to request the additional funding required.

For more complex AT it may be necessary to complete further clinical assessments to gather the information needed to fully understand the client’s unique needs and to determine the required features of the AT being prescribed. We will clearly explain to you what additional assessments are required and the purpose of these before proceeding. Once we have the necessary information the OT will research suitable options for consideration.

The suitability of potential AT solutions is determined through trials of the options in the contexts in which they are intended for use. Trials help to identify the benefits and limitations of each option and consider these so the optimal solution can be identified. Trials also help identify the specific features, options and accessories required to meet the client’s individual needs. The number and duration of trials may vary depending on the complexity of the AT solution required.

This report provides the clinical justification for the recommended AT solution. The layout, content and length of the report will vary depending on the type and complexity of the AT solution being prescribed and the specific requirements of the funding body. The AT Report and a quote for the recommended AT is submitted to the NDIA for approval of funding.

Supported implementation will ensure that you can fully integrate your AT into your daily life and get the most out of it. We assist the client to set up and customise the AT solution to meet their needs. Instruction and training on safe and effective use of the AT will also be provided to the client and their support team if required. We also ensure you know how to look after your new AT and keep it in good working order to maximise its serviceable life.
